University of Victoria Faculty Concert: Alexander Dunn, guitar
Classical guitar virtuoso Alexander Dunn takes centre stage in a unique concert of guitar and string music joined by a host of guest string players including UVic’s graduate string quartet, Cuarteto Chroma, new Victoria Conservatory of Music faculty violinists, Simon MacDonald and David Visentin, plus members of the Lafayette String Quartet.
WEEKLY: UVic Guitar Masterclass Mondays 2:30 to 4:30 at the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall (MacLaurin B Wing). These classes are open to the public.

The young artists are saying a musical farewell to Victoria before heading off to do their graduate degrees in Guitar Performance in the United States.

Fri. Feb. 23 8pm PTY Recital Hall, University of Victoria. map. UVic Faculty Recital. Virtuoso guitarist Alexander Dunn performs two gorgeous Brahms-inspired Sonatas by the Austrian composer Ferdinand Rebay.
Although little known, Rebay is enjoying a deserved recognition for his beautiful and well-crafted music. Program will also include the Canadian premiere of Alan Willcocks’ 12 Impressionistic Sketches and his 12 Minature Preludes – English Impressionism reminiscent of Debussy.

Born to a musical family in Regina, Saskatchewan, Adrian Verdejo began studying the guitar at a young age. He received a Master of Music degree from the University of Ottawa a BMus from the University of Victoria, and a Music Diploma from Capilano University. He studied with guitarists Patrick Roux, Dr. Alexander Dunn, and Stephen Boswell. Adrian Verdejo performs many works spanning the guitar repertoire and has commissioned and premiered several new pieces. He specializes in contemporary music with equal fluency in classical and electric guitar styles. Verdejo’s debut solo album, Modern Hearts, was listed in the Top Albums of 2014 by Vancouver’s The Georgia Straight.
